You will have an experienced artist to help you develop your ideas and produce your artwork. \n\n\n\nA Wendigo is a malevolent\, cannibalistic monster from the folklore of Indigenous Algonquian-speaking tribes in North America. It is traditionally described as a skeletal\, emaciated figure with an insatiable hunger for human flesh\, representing the ultimate dangers of starvation\, greed\, and the loss of humanity. The traditional stories of the Ojibwe\, Cree\, and other Algonquian peoples\, a wendigo can originate in two main ways: Possession: A human is possessed by a malevolent wendigo spirit. Transformation: A human becomes a wendigo as punishment for greed or after being driven by starvation to commit the taboo act of cannibalism. Far from just being a horror monster\, the wendigo served as a cultural cautionary tale. It embodied the community’s condemnation of selfishness\, excess\, and social isolation. By giving in to greed or consuming human flesh\, an individual was believed to lose their humanity entirely and transform into a monster that is never satisfied\, continually hunting to feed its relentless hunger.

Often considered the Slavic equivalent of a mermaid or siren\, they are typically the tragic spirits of young women who died unbaptized\, by drowning\, or from a broken heart. Depending on the region\, beliefs about the Rusalka vary. In early Slavic paganism\, they were sometimes seen as benevolent nature spirits tied to fertility and agriculture. However\, later folklore typically depicts them as dangerous\, undead entities that lure unsuspecting men into the water to drown them or tickle them to death. They are frequently described as beautiful women with very long\, flowing\, often green or blond hair. In some northern Russian traditions\, however\, they are depicted as ugly\, unkempt\, and malicious creatures. “Rusalka Week”: Also known as Green Week or Trinity Week (early June)\, this was believed to be the time of year these spirits left the water to swing on birch and weeping willow branches. She is generally tied to specific\, ancient Irish families (usually those with an “O” or “Mac” prefix) and appears to warn members no matter where they are in the world. The banshee’s appearance can vary widely\, often depending on regional lore or who is telling the story. She is most frequently depicted as an ugly hag with long white hair and a grey cloak or a beautiful\, mournful young woman with silken silver hair or washerwoman washing bloody clothing at a riverbank. While primarily an auditory phenomenon\, some witnesses claim to have seen her combing her hair\, weeping near a window\, or clapping her hands in grief.

Her name roughly translates to “grandmother” or “old woman” combined with a name for a witch or pain. She is typically described as a gaunt old woman with a terrifying nose\, iron teeth\, and occasionally a literal bony leg. Her hut spins endlessly until commanded to stop. To approach it\, a hero must speak a specific ritual phrase. Instead of a broom\, Baba Yaga travels through the sky in an iron mortar\, steering with a pestle and using a broom to sweep away her tracks. Scholars note that Baba Yaga’s character is wildly contradictory\, she is an ogress who steals and roasts children in her magical oven. She serves as a chaotic neutral gatekeeper or guardian between the worlds of the living and the dead and in many tales\, she tests heroes who wander into her domain. If the protagonist acts with respect and bravery\, she offers magical items\, guidance\, or wisdom.

The holiday traces its roots back over 3\,000 years to the indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica\, such as the Aztecs and Nahua\, who believed souls could return to the earthly realm to feast\, drink\, and celebrate with their families. Families create elaborate\, decorative altars (ofrendas) in their homes or at gravesites. These are adorned with photographs of the departed\, candles\, papel picado (intricate cut-paper banners)\, and the favourite foods and drinks of their loved ones. Bright orange marigolds with their vibrant colour and strong scent are believed to act as a physical path\, guiding spirits back to the world of the living. Brightly decorated sugar skulls are frequently placed on altars as symbolic\, playful representations of departed souls and a reminder to mock\, rather than fear\, mortality.

Unlike Santa Claus\, Ded Moroz travels with his granddaughter and helper\, the Snow Maiden (Snegurochka)\, who wears an ice-blue robe. He dresses in a heel-length fur coat (in shades of red\, blue\, or white)\, carries a magical staff\, and is known to deliver presents directly at the door rather than sliding down chimneys. You will have an experienced artist to help you develop your ideas and produce your artwork. \n\n\n\nA Yuki-onna\, which translates to “snow woman\,” is a famous spirit or yōkai in Japanese folklore. She is typically depicted as an ethereally beautiful woman with long black hair\, ageless pale skin\, and icy eyes who appears during winter blizzards to haunt travelers or drain their life force. She often preys on lost wanderers\, using her icy breath or a kiss to freeze them to death. Depending on the regional tale\, she can be seen as the vengeful ghost of a woman who died in the snow\, or as a spirit of nature itself—indifferent and deadly. In the most famous version of the story popularized by writer Lafcadio Hearn\, she spares a young woodcutter’s life on the condition that he never speaks of her. He later marries a mortal woman—unaware she is the Yuki-onna in disguise—but eventually breaks his promise\, causing her to vanish into the night.

You will have an experienced artist to help you develop your ideas and produce your artwork. \n\n\n\nFrau Perchta is an ancient\, dual-natured Alpine winter goddess and folklore figure from southern Germany and Austria. Her name likely derives from the Old High German word perat (meaning “the bright one”)\, and she serves as a powerful symbol of the dark\, unforgiving winter. Perchta embodies a dramatic duality\, often appearing as a beautiful\, glowing woman in white in some tales\, and as a terrifying\, ragged crone with an iron nose and a limp in others. Legends say she travels from house to house inspecting homes to see if chores are completed and if children are well-behaved. The Good leave her an offering of traditional porridge\, and she will reward you with a small silver coin. If she finds unfinished chores or disobedient children\, she is infamously known as the “Belly-Slitter” (or Bauchaufschneiderin). According to the gruesome myth\, she slits open the stomachs of the lazy\, removes their entrails\, and stuffs them with rocks and straw. Beyond visiting individual homes\, Frau Perchta is believed to act as a psychopomp\, guiding the souls of deceased children. She leads a spectral entourage of spirits and the souls of the dead across the winter sky—a localized version of the “Wild Hunt”. In the Alpine regions\, this entourage evolved into the Perchten\, traditional costumed figures with carved wooden masks that parade through towns to banish the winter cold\, which still survive today as a key part of regional Alpine traditions.

He is based on a real 15th-century German knight named Hans von Trotha (c. 1450–1503)\, known for a ruthless land dispute with a local abbey. During the holiday season\, particularly on Saint Nicholas’ Day (December 6)\, Trapp accompanies St. Nicholas in local parades (such as in Wissembourg). Over time\, von Trotha’s fearsome reputation transformed into folklore. In the traditional Christmas stories of Alsace and Lorraine\, Hans Trapp is characterized as a wicked\, greedy man who made a deal with the Devil and turned to cannibalism. Banished to the mountains\, he returns around Christmas as a terrifying scarecrow to terrify misbehaving children into behaving. While St. Nicholas rewards good children\, Hans Trapp carries a rod and a jute sack to threaten or “punish” the naughty ones.

You will have an experienced artist to help you develop your ideas and produce your artwork. \n\n\n\nIn Icelandic folklore\, Grýla is a terrifying\, child-eating ogress and mother to the 13 Yule Lads. Her pet\, the Yule Cat (Jólakötturinn)\, is a giant\, vicious feline. Legend dictates that on Christmas Eve\, the Yule Cat prowls and devours anyone—child or adult—who hasn’t received a new piece of clothing before the holidays. Grýla has been a part of Icelandic folklore for centuries\, dating as far back as the 13th-century Sturlunga Saga. Far from being a cute holiday pet\, the Yule Cat is a massive and hungry beast. The legend likely originated as a way to encourage farmhands and children to finish the grueling autumn wool harvests before winter set in. Those who worked hard were rewarded with new clothes\, while those who slacked off were left with nothing and were eaten.

You will have an experienced artist to help you develop your ideas and produce your artwork. \n\n\n\nThe Mari Lwyd (meaning “Grey Mare”) is a traditional Welsh winter festival custom. It involves a decorated horse’s skull mounted on a pole\, carried by a person hidden under a white sheet. The “Mari” is made from a real horse’s skull that has been decorated with colorful ribbons\, bells\, and baubles. It often has glass baubles for eyes and a movable lower jaw attached to strings so it can snap and clack at bystanders. The person carrying the skull is completely covered by a long white cloth\, usually leading a rowdy troupe of characters. If the homeowners are outsmarted or run out of rhymes\, they are traditionally expected to welcome the Mari Lwyd and its entourage inside to provide them with food\, ale\, and hospitality\, which in turn brings good luck to the household for the coming new year. While first documented in Wales around the early 19th century\, historians believe the custom has roots reaching much further back\, likely stemming from pre-Christian pagan folklore or traditional English wassailing.

He traditionally carries rattling chains and a bundle of birch twigs. In regions like Austria\, Germany\, Hungary\, and Italy\, locals take part in Krampuslauf (Krampus runs)\, where people dress in terrifying\, handmade wooden masks and fur costumes\, parading through the streets to scare both children and adults. Krampus predates Christianity\, evolving from ancient\, pre-Christian pagan winter solstice rituals meant to ward off evil spirits.
